30,000 LITERS OF MILK MORE THAN IN RECORD YEAR OF 2018 SOLD LAST YEAR

 

SOKOLAC, JANUARY 17 /SRNA/ - Slaviša Knežević, the senior associate for agriculture in Sokolac Municipality, told SRNA that Sokolac delivered 2,587,000 liters of milk to dairy farms last year, which is 30,000 liters more than in the record year of 2018.

 

Knežević said that last year’s key purchasers were the Milkos dairy from Sarajevo and Pađeni from Bileća.

"164 dairy farmers delivered 2,172,000 liters of milk to Bileća-based dairy, while 56 dairy farmers delivered 415,000 liters of milk to Sarajevo dairy," Knežević said.

He pointed out that 220 farmers from the Sokolac area sold market surplus milk to dairies in the past year, which is an approximate figure as in the year before.

Knežević said that the 2019 largest producers of milk from the Sokolac area were Janja Lizdek of Ravna Romanija with 86,530 liters sold, Bojan Obradović of Sokolović with 76,720 liters and Jadranka Kojić of Podromanija with 71,220 liters of milk sold.

He estimated that this local community recorded steady increase in milk production and buying-in in the last few years, thanked to milk being the only agricultural product for which the buyer and the price were to in advance.

Knežević recalled that more than 80 percent of milk producers from Sokolac produce the extra class milk, which makes the price better.

According to the information from the field available to Knežević, the regular payments for the milk delivered also effects increase in production.

"`Pađeni' dairy has never been late with payments for delivered milk, which is the most important for the producers," Knežević emphasized.

In 2018, Sokolac sold a total of 2,557,000 liters of milk to the dairies. /end/vos
