KOZARSKA DUBICA, JANUARY 27 /SRNA/ - Exhibition "Jasenovac Camp Breakthrough " by Dejan Motl was installed in the exhibition hall of the Donja Gradina Memorial Zone to mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and 75 years since the breakthrough from the Jasenovac concentration camp.

Motl, who is a senior curator-historian at the Donja Gradina Memorial Zone, tells the press that the exhibition is titled "Jasenovac Camp Breakthrough" and is about the last month of the Jasenovac camp and those who managed to survive that last act of horror from the concentration camp “Jasenovac”.

"Today marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz camp. There are a lot of similarities between Jasenovac and Auschwitz camps. These last days are different since while the Red Army units liberated Auschwitz, Jasenovac was liberated by the last surviving Jasenovac camp detainees, who were struggling for their lives,” Motl said.

He recalled that the Jasenovac breakthrough occurred on April 22, 1945.

"They decided to sell their lives as expensively as possible and started the breakthrough under the motto - one to survive, at least. 90 out of 1,073 inmates, according to unofficial number of camp detainees at the moment, survived," Motl said.

He added that the exhibition was dedicated to those who managed to survive.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was marked today with the opening of an exhibition on the breakthrough of Jasenovac camp detainees and the laying of flowers at the Memorial to the victims of Jasenovac and Donja Gradina Camps within the Donja Gradina Memorial Zone in Kozarska Dubica. /end/vos
