BRUSSELS – EU Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Füle is coming to Sarajevo on Friday to meet with local politicians in an effort to find a way for Bosnia and Herzegovina to finally get moving on the European path, Füle’s spokesman Peter Stano told Srna.

BANJA LUKA – In 2012, the Court of BiH had 51 judges and none of them managed to fulfil the annual quota in resolving the cases of war crimes, organised crime, corruption or other serious offences. The poorest performance was that of the Court President, Meddžida Kreso.

SARAJEVO – The Appellate Panel of the Court of BiH scheduled the first hearing in the case of Nikola Andrun for Friday, after the Constitutional Court of BiH had cancelled Andrun’s judgement over an incorrect application of the criminal code.

SARAJEVO – Members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency arrested a person identified as S.B. in the area of Prijedor on Friday morning on suspicion that he committed war crimes against civilian population.

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA – People of Kosovska Mitrovica observed a day of mourning on Friday honouring the late Dimitrije Janićijević, a city councillor who was murdered on Wednesday night.

BELGRADE – Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić sharply condemned the murder of councillor in the municipal assembly of northern Kosovska Mitrovica Dimitrije Janićijević, demanding the authorities find and punish the perpetrator as soon as possible.

WASHINGTON – The United States condemned the murder of councillor Dimitrije Janićijević and urged the Priština authorities to conduct a probe into the incident and punish the responsible.

BELGRADE – There are indications that descendants of Prince Tomislav Karađorđević will again claim from Slovenia their Villa Bled, the dynasty’s summer residence.

UŽICE – The International Küstendorf Film and Music Festival kicks off on Saturday, January 18. The event gathers some of the famous names including Asghar Farhadi, the Iranian director who won an Academy Award, the renowned writer Guillermo Arriaga, Argentine actress Bérénice Bejo and French singer Zaz.


THE HAGUE – Defence witness in the Radovan Karadžić before the ICTY, Prvoslav Davinić, testified on Friday that in June 1996 in Pale, Karadžić had told him that the Army of Republika Srpska had not fired the grenade that killed and injured dozens of civilians at Sarajevo’s Markale Market in August 1995.

BELGRADE – Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkić says that Serbia and Croatia’s mutual genocide lawsuits to be dealt with by the International Court of Justice at The Hague will have a negative effect on the bilateral relations, expressing concern over the explicit spreading of hatred against the Serbs and their culture and language in Croatia.

PODGORICA – The Podgorica-based dailies Dan and Vijesti left the third page in their Friday editions blank in protest of violence against journalists.
