THE SUFFERING OF THE SERB PEOPLE IN KOZARA IS A STRONG SYMBOL OF THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM

 

BANJA LUKA, JULY 4 /SRNA/ - The Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska Radovan Višković said, on the occasion of marking the 78th anniversary of the Battle of Kozara, that the suffering of the Serb people in Kozara is an extremely strong symbol of the fight for freedom.

 

"The sacrifice that Kozara made indebted us and future generations to inherit the values of the spirit of freedom and the People's Liberation Struggle", Višković stated.

He pointed out that resistance which has been offered, showed great strength and courage of both the soldiers and the civilian population of that area, the Government's Public Relations Bureau announced.

"Our obligation is that not allow the significance of events such as the Battle of Kozara to be diminished and the historical facts to be distorted, with the wish that this kind of suffering never happens again", Višković stated.

The 78th anniversary of the Battle of Kozara, in which about 40,000 civilians were killed, and 68,000 were expelled and interned in camps was marked on Mrakovica today.

The Battle of Kozara began on June 12, 1942 and lasted until the night between July 3 and 4, when the enemy's siege was broken. This battle is also mentioned as a Kozara epic. It is the area where one of the greatest genocides against the Serb people in the Second World War was committed. /end/bo
