BUDAPEST, June 17 /SRNA/ - Serb member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Milorad Dodik says it is crucial to preserve the Serbian Orthodox Church because it is the most important part of the Serbian identity.

"Through history, the church managed under various circumstances to preserve and bring the Serbs together and that is why today we have Serbia, Republika Srpska, and our strong Serbian communities around the world. Serbs are a peaceful people like they have always proved. I believe turbulent times are over and that this is the time of peace, stability and affirmation of our identity,” Dodik stated during a meeting with the Bishop Lukian of Budim and administrator of Timisoara.

The Serb member of the BiH Presidency said he was happy to visit the Serbian Orthodox Church in Hungary and see a happy Serbian community there.

"I am grateful to Hungary for having regulated the rights of the Serbian national minority, which is an example of how that issue can be resolved to everyone’s pleasure,” emphasised Dodik, wishing Bishop Lukian health and professional success.

Bishop Lukian said he was very happy and grateful for Dodik’s visit.

"It is a great honour and pleasure to receive you here in the seat of the Diocese of Budim since you come from our motherland - Republika Srpska," said Bishop Lukian.

He pointed out that the Serbian community were happy with their life in Hungary and that they would not have been able to achieve anything were it not for the Hungarian state.

"This is a country of heritage and culture and we, Orthodox Serbs, feel good here together with the Hungarians," stated Bishop Lukian.

After the meeting with Bishop Lukian of Budim, Dodik is supposed to visit Saint Andrea and the Serbian Museum of the Diocese of Budim. /end/dš
