CEREMONY "EXODUS AND PERSISTENCE" IN HONOUR OF SERBS KILLED IN VOZUĆA BEGINS

DOBOJ, September 9 /SRNA/ - Monday evening in Doboj saw the start of a formal ceremony “Exodus and Persistence” - a reminder of war events in Vozuća and the ethnic cleansing of more than 40,000 Serbs from Zenica, Žepče, Banovići, and Zavidovići, which is attended by President of Republika Srpska Željka Cvijanović and Serb member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Milorad Dodik.

The event is organised by the Association of Zavidovići Natives seated in Doboj to mark the date of September 10, 1995, the day when Serbs from Vozuća were expelled from their centuries’ old homes in offensives of the so-called Army of BiH titled Hurricane and Farz, upon direct orders of Alija Izetbegović, who defined the merger of the Tuzla and Zenica basin as the priority goal.

A total of 23,000 Muslim soldiers from the 2nd and 3rd Corps of the so-called Army of BiH took part in the offensive on September 10, as did the El Mujahid Squad, supported by NATO air force and quick reaction forces.

Thirty Serb villages were burnt to the ground then, 1,920 Serb families with 7,680 members were banished, 459 fighters of the Army of Republika Srpska and civilians were killed, while 129 others are still searched for.

The fall of Vozuća was the end of the ethnic cleansing of more than 40,000 Serbs from the area of Zenica, Žepče, Banovići, and Zavidovići, which was carried out in stages, mercilessly, brutally, and with support of the policy of the international community at the time. /end/dš
