FIRST-INSTANCE JUDGMENT TO ĆUFUROVIĆ FOR TAKING PART IN WARFARE IN SYRIA CONFIRMED

SARAJEVO, MARCH 20 /SRNA/ - The Appellate Panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina upholds a first-instance judgment sentencing a former member of the Islamic State terrorist organisation, Ibro Ćufurović, to four years in prison for taking part in warfare in Syria.

Ćufurović's defence attorney, Senad Dupovac, told SRNA that the Appellate Panel rejected the appeals to the first-instance judgement submitted by prosecution and defence, and also his client.

"The Appellate Panel is of the opinion the Court made its decision correctly during the first instance proceedings after considering all the mitigating and aggravating circumstances," Dupovac said.

In 2018, Ćufurović was deported from Syria to BiH, after which he was indicted and convicted of taking part in warfare in Syria on the side the Islamic State terrorist organisation.

He is serving a prison sentence in Bihać.

In Syria, Ćufurović married Amina Kečo, with whom he has two children. She was deported to BiH last year and is now with her parents in Hadžići. /end/vos
